Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is a powerful imaging tool full of wonder and able to unlock the wonders of the human body

PET is Wonderful (PiW) is an academic and research-driven initiative that aims to support, connect and celebrate the global Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging community.

PET is an imaging technique that relies on the injection of a molecule that has been specifically designed so that it binds to a targeted receptor, transporter, enzyme or protein in the body, i.e. a radiotracer. PET can be coupled with Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging to provide anatomical landmarks and better describe regional distribution of the PET radiotracer in vivo

PET is a powerful tool used to improve the understanding of how human diseases develop and progress, to discover new treatments for disease and ultimately to make a real impact on people’s health.

A PET image is the perfect union of the wonders of physics (radioactive decay and positron annihilation), chemistry (uniquely tailored compounds), biology (multidimensional complex processes happening in real time) and mathematics (multiparametric kinetic data). It is a technique full of wonder and able to unlock the wonders of human physiology and pathophysiology.
